Denver police are investigating an incident at a local senior high school after a video clip emerged of the teen cheerleader screaming as she is forced into splits.

The particular footage shows Ally Wakefield, 13, being held straight down by her fellow Eastern High School cheerleaders plus coach at a 06 training camp as the girl screams in pain.

The particular footage was provided to local NBC affiliate KUSA, which reported that it have been sent other videos showing a total of eight East High cheerleaders being forced in to the divides.
Wakefield and her mom, Kirsten, were not immediately available for interviews. The particular teen said she would speak with BuzzFeed Information later on Thursday.

Nevertheless, KUSA published an email sent from the mom to the school’s sports director on June fifteen, stating that her child injured her leg in the incident:

I have attached a video of the forced splits she and her other team members were forced to do at cheerleading camp and practices; unless they had a doctor’s note. This is how Ally injured her leg.

My husband and I would like to know what the administration is going to do about my daughter’s injury and how it happened.

Group coach Ozell Williams — who has thousands of followers on Instagram, where he posts videos of himself tumbling — was only recently hired as the team’s coach, KUSA reported. He did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Denver Public Schools Superintendent Mary Boasberg described the video footage as “extremely distressing and absolutely contrary to our core values as a public school community. ”

Inside a statement on Wednesday, Boasberg said top school officials and cheer coaches had been placed on leave as an investigation takes place, but cautioned that this was standard practice and not a prejudgment of their actions:

Earlier today, I became aware of an exercise used at cheer practices this summer at East High School. We immediately began taking steps to investigate this issue, and our Department of Safety is supporting Denver Police in this effort.
In order to conduct a fair and thorough investigation, we have placed East Principal Andy Mendelsberg, East Assistant Principal Lisa Porter, East Cheer Coach Ozell Williams, East Assistant Cheer Coach Mariah Cladis and DPS Deputy General Counsel Michael Hickman on leave.
This is standard practice within an investigation of this kind. Will not imply or prejudge by any means the actions associated with the individuals or exactly what the investigation might figure out. Please know that all of us will share the outcomes of the investigation as quickly as possible.
I want to state in no uncertain phrases our commitment towards the security of our students. All of us absolutely prohibit any methods that place our students’ physical and mental wellness in jeopardy. We perform not and can not permit any situation in which usually a student is required to perform an activity or even exercise beyond the stage at which they show their desire to quit.
Could investigation is continuing, we have been completely focused upon ensuring our students plus staff at East are usually obtaining the supports these people need. A senior innovator at the school, Jerrika Maclin, will serve because interim principal during this particular time and we are usually providing additional counseling for the students and families.
In relation to certain videos, I am not able to state strongly enough – since the superintendent of the particular school district and the particular father of two higher school-aged daughters – that will the images and activities depicted are extremely upsetting and absolutely contrary in order to our core values because a public school local community.

Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson told BuzzFeed News investigators were looking into the footage.

“It was brought to our attention, ” he said Thursday. “We have a lot of interviews to conduct. ”

“We’re still looking into it at this point in time. ”
