This is actually the moment a lion resided up to a different sort of ‘pride’ when he pinned down another male in an obvious bid to mate with him – while a surly lioness looked on exasperated.
Amateur wildlife professional photographer Russ Bridges captured the spectacle at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster.
The images show one of the male elephants strides over to his mate, mount him and pin him down then apparently attempt to companion.

‘I think it was a lttle bit of a ‘should have visited Specsavers’ moment as the lioness was just lying there next to them.
‘In fairness though, whenever a male proceeded to go near her she snarled and swiped their encounters with her paw.
‘It’s not really unusual to allow them to act that way sometimes. I don’t know if it’s a dominance thing or something like that – it looks as though they are aggressive, but it’s all play between friends.

Mr Bridges, from Rotherham in South Yorkshire, said: ‘There are two males and female in that pride. One of the lions suddenly got up, walked over and jumped on his friend’s back.
‘A fair few people were watching this going on and laughing – they were all commenting on what it looked like.
Stockroom shift manager Mr Links, 42, said he’d took pictures of lions at the animals park before but this was the very first time however seen them playing with each other.
He said: ‘Usually these people lay asleep doing absolutely nothing when I go in order to photograph them, but this particular time these were up plus about.
‘My favorite chance is the one in which he appears to be adhering his tongue out.
‘I’ve never seen a chance of two males upon top of one an additional with one sticking their tongue out before — it’s like he’s displaying some pride in exactly what he’s doing.
‘I completely adore animals, I cannot even bring myself in order to kill a fly or even a spider, and really like the conservation work that will the park do. ‘
